Among the Horticultural Crops, Fruits and Vegetables (FV) are of primary - portance as the key source of essential components in an adequate and balanced human diet. FV have supported largely the daily food requirement of mankind since ages and even before man learned to grow cereal crops. •Symptoms: visible reaction of plant to infection by disease-causing pathogen •Inoculum: part of a pathogen capable of infecting the host plant to cause the disease (e.g. spore, mycelium, bacterial cell, virus particle) •Vector: an organism capable of pathogen transmission. 2. Symptoms first apparent in old leaves. a. First indication, ashen gray-green leaves at base of plant. Leaves develop a bronze and yellowish-brown color. Leaf margins become brown and cup downward. Specks develop along veins of leaf. Tissue deteriorates and dies. Roots poorly developed and brown. Stems slender, become hard and woody. Physiological disorders of vegetable crops include: Tipburn (physiological/nutritional) – a result of a calcium transport problem within the plant. Blossom end rot (physiological/nutritional) – caused by a deficiency of calcium or insufficient calcium uptake and translocation to growing points.
